Bayley’s story

A dog that changed our lives

22nd December 2005 - Bayley was in the vets to be put to sleep for aggression towards people. To say Bayley had suffered the most dreadful start in life due to the thoughtlessness and cruelty of people would probably be an understatement. Bayley was originally bought as a pedigree dog for ‘beating’, but did not take to it so his owner kept him locked in a shed for the best part of three months. He was physically and mentally abused for all sorts of things. He was eventually rescued by a neighbour and was then passed on to a disabled gent, as the neighbour, who was a friend, thought it would be nice for him to have a dog. ...Sadly the gent and his family could not exercise Bayley properly and thought he was probably very bored as well as too protective of them. He was lovely with his own family, but had started attacking visitors. They put him behind a child gate but he barked and jumped up and down until the visitors had gone.
HWAR’s vet felt he deserved a chance and asked the rescue if they could help him... but he had to be out of the vets that day as they were shutting for Christmas. This caused a mad panic as all HWAR foster homes were full - and anyway who would want a potentially aggressive dog in their house for Christmas. HWAR had an offer of a foster home in Essex which they took (they had absolutely nowhere else for him) - unfortunately Bayley didn’t work out in that home... HWAR then managed to persuade a member of Cocker Rescue to fit him into her home for a few weeks. Finally, HWAR via Cockers Online found him a forever home in what turned out to be his best home ever! 4 February - Bayley has found his forever home. Bayley is featured in the January 07 issue of Your Dog Magazine. His has to be one of the great good news stories for the year. Bayley has since won trick competitions, appeared in various dog monthlies and newspapers, as well as studying and helping to pass a foundation degree.
